Somizi Mhlongo is a South African choreographer, TV and radio personality. He co-hosts the breakfast show with DJ Fresh on Metro FM from 5am to 8am.
He was born on 23rd December 1972 in Soweto, Gauteng, South Africa. He is 45 years old as of 2018.

He is the son of Mary Twala a veteran South African actress and Ndaba Mhlongo an actor and assistant director. His farther Mhlongo is best known for Bad Company (1985), Isivumelwano (1978) and Strike Force (1986). He was nominated for Broadway’s 1988 Tony Award as Best Choreographer along with collaborator Mbongeni Ngema for “Sarafina!”.

His mother Twala has featured in several south African local productions, and in 2011, she was nominated for Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

His career began when he was 13 years old when he joined the broadway musical Sarafina! and travelled the world for 5 years with the production. He later went on to star in the film adaptation of Sarafina!, which also became the first big project he choreographed. As a young star he later featured in other acclaimed movies such as Cry, The Beloved Country.

He was the lead choreographer for Miss South Africa from 1998 – 2008 and then again in 2015. He had his own show on Cliff Central. He helped choreograph the 2010 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony.
He is also the ambassador for Department of Water and Sanitation and DSTV compact.
